Susan was born in Montreal to the late Greg and Mary (Morrison) MacQuarrie. The family moved to Sydney NS and Susan and her siblings were proud to be raised as Cape Bretoners. She is survived by her dear daughter Ami, of Charlottetown PEI. Also surviving are her sister Virginia (Derek Stapleton) and their son Alex; her sister Sandra (Glenn) Keefe and their children Shelby, Matthew (Laura Fraser) and Adam; and her brother Stephen and his daughter Laken.
Susan was a proud graduate of Holy Angels High School in Sydney. She also holds a BBA from Cape Breton University and an MBA from St. Mary’s University. She was employed for the last 28 years with Maritime Paper, rising to the position of Director of Human Resources.
Susan spent her life surrounded by friends and family who will miss her enormously. If there was an event, a girl’s trip, a concert, or a Jays or Patriots game, you could always count on Susan to be there.
The family offers sincere thanks to her local family members and her friends who all stepped up to offer help during her illness. You are all irreplaceable. Also, thanks to the Palliative Care team with NSHA and the Closing the Gap organization, specifically the care and friendship from Alicia.
In particular we want to thank Susan’s lifelong best friend Mary Jean Biron, her husband Darrell, and Jim Clements, who all went above and beyond to help.
Susan offered up her time to many charities over the years including most recently the Brunswick St. Mission. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brunswick St. Mission, 2107 Brunswick St Halifax NS B3K 2Y4, would be much appreciated. Blood donations to Canadian Blood Services are also appreciated to continue Susan’s lifelong commitment to blood donation.
Visitation will be held in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Thursday, May 2 from 1pm to 3pm and from 7pm to 9pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 3 beginning at 11am at Holy Apostles Parish - St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 18 Scholars Rd. Upper Tantallon. A reception will follow the Mass.
