Caroline L. Wirtz, of Grove City, Ohio, formerly of Freeland, Michigan, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon July 16, 2024 surrounded by her family after a brief illness at the age of 90 years. Caroline was born February 11, 1934 in Detroit, MI to the late William and Clara E. (Huetteman) Strobel, residing in the Freeland area for most of her life, until moving to the Grove City, OH area in September of 2023. Caroline attend Lowrey High School in Dearborn, MI, then received her B. A. from Capital University, Columbus, OH and her M. A. from the University of Dayton, Dayton, OH. Throughout her career Caroline taught English and Remedial Reading in Hemlock, MI, was a counselor at North Royalton H. S in North Royalton, OH, she served as a consultant for Gifted Education with the Saginaw Intermediate School District, was Director of the Honor’s Program and Fantastics Program and Associate Dean of Academics at Delta College. On June 11, 1955 Caroline married Robert D. Gruenberg, he predeceased her in November of 1973. Then on July 25, 1981 she married Richard L. Wirtz, he survives her. Eight children; Mark (Mary Alice) Gruenberg of Beaver Creek, OH, David (Amy Jo) Gruenberg of Bexley, OH, Paul (Lynet) Gruenberg of Gaylord, MI, Elizabeth (Eric) Groth of Port Charlotte, FL, Joel (Jessica) Gruenberg of Canton, MI, Ellie (Greg) McKee of Columbus, OH, Scott (Annette) Wirtz of Lawrenceville, GA, Jenny (Hugh) Dickie of St. Charles, MI. Seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive Caroline. Family will receive guests one hour prior to her 3:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday July 22, 2024 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 4501 Hoover Rd., Grove City, OH. Pastor Peter Ray will officiate. A committal service and entombment will follow on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Mausoleum, Freeland, MI.
