
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Mynita was the beloved daughter of Marie Gay and the cherished sister of James Temple Jr., Fred Temple, and Sydale Temple. She was first married to Charles Van Dyke, and later to her devoted husband, the late William “Bill” Jackson, with whom she shared many happy years.
Mynita dedicated her career to caring for others as a home healthcare aide. She and Bill found great joy in traveling together, especially on cruises, creating memories that she treasured deeply. In quieter moments, she enjoyed knitting, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. A woman of deep faith, Mynita was a devoted member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Greenwich.
She is survived by her son, Vincent (Corinne) Van Dyke; her grandchildren, Aja VanDyke-Huges of San Antonio, TX, Chynna VanDyke-Huges of Norwalk, CT, J. Brandon VanDyke-Huges of Las Vegas, NV, Mylena Van Dyke Overthrow of New Milford, CT, Lindsay (Brett) Schaffer, Alexis Van Dyke of Oakland, CA, and Gregory (Alison) Van Dyke; and her sister, Sydale Burgess of Louisville, KY. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
Mynita was predeceased by her husband, Bill Jackson; her daughter, Yvette Van Dyke Overthrow; and her brothers, James and Fred Temple.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her faith and family. Mynita had a gift for bringing people together, often through her cooking, which she shared lovingly with all. Her warmth, strength, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St, Greenwich, CT 06830.
