Kathy Kirkman Lane, 76 of Greensboro, passed peacefully May 4th under hospice care after a prolonged illness. She was born August 21, 1947 at Wesley Long Hospital to Katie Pickard Kirkman and William “Tor” Hoyle Kirkman. She was a graduate of Page High School before taking bookkeeping courses at GTCC.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her only brother David Kirkman. She is survived by her two children William “Bill” David Wilson and Kristy Michelle Wilson. Two granddaughters Shawna Brawner (spouse Chris Brawner) and Ashley Jones (spouse Ben Patton). Kathy was particularly close to her niece Toni Kirkman Mazzatenta (spouse Mark Mazzatenta) and her grand nephew/niece’s Andrew (spouse Jessie) and Carrie “CJ” Mazzatenta.
Throughout her life, Kathy touched the lives of and loved so many individuals. She was the thoughtful friend and the neighborhood Mom adopting anyone who needed a hug, temporary home, helping hand or warm meal. The house her children grew up in was diverse and filled with laughter, joy, chaotic moments, but most of all love with people and animals everywhere.
When dementia started stealing her memories she slowly started being unable to travel much, read her precious books and shifted more into watching movies and tv always with her beloved pets at her side.
The final illness set in and she found grace and compassion from her caregivers. Frequently they spoke warmly of her and how she would smile and whisper caring words to them. Always a beautiful , caring soul, you never doubted her love for all living beings.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday 5/10 at Hanes and Lineberry on N Elm Street in Greensboro. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to local animal rescue and foster programs. Suggestions include: Feral Cat Assistance Program (FCAP); Juliet’s House; and Red Dog Farm
