He was of the Methodist faith. He worked 30 plus years at Lowland Enka/Basf and was a veteran of the US Navy. David was a loving husband to Stella Holland Coakley for 54 years until her death in 2020. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandpappy wearing those hats proudly. He was a great woodworker, and made many things with is hands and heart for those he loved, being a perfectionist in that area. He was full of wisdom, knowledge and gave his advice to many. He farmed and grew tobacco for many years and always grew the most beautiful garden. He was a jokester and loved a good laugh. He always carried his medicine rock and loved hummingbirds and feeding them daily. He worked crossword puzzles and played games on his phone and always said it kept his mind sharp and his was sharp as a tack.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Stella Holland Coakley; mother and father: Louise and Eugene Coakley and a brother: Robert Coakley.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law whom he treated and loved as his own: Tammy and Jeff Jaynes; two sons and daughters- in-law whom he loved as his own: Jeff and Holly Coakley and Jerry and Deanna Coakley; grandchildren: Taylor and Preston Shuffler, MaLynn and Kevin Smith, Tristan Coakley, Dillon Coakley and Colby Coakley; great grandchildren who were the light of his life: Rayevn Shuffler, Wren Shuffler and Denver Smith; brothers: Frank and Billie Coakley and Carroll Coakley; sisters: Linda Harris, Pat Coakley and Gwen and Daryl Bible; several special cousins, friends, very special friends: Max Sauls, Chad and Pam Dalton, MaKenna, Bryleigh, Braelynn, Emrie, Cameron and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at Kiser-Rose Chapel with Rev. Jim Fain and Rev. Max Sauls officiating.
Interment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers will be: Tristan Coakley, Colby Coakley, Dillon Coakley, Preston Shuffler, Kevin Smith, Matthew Bible and Chase Bible.
