Lloyd Eugene McKinney was born 86 years ago on December 4, 1937 in Grand Junction, Colorado. His parents were Irwin and Lila McKinney, and he was one of four children. Lloyd passed away on May 1, 2024.
Lloyd was raised on a ranch in Redvale, Colorado where he learned the value of hard work and had many fun times growing up and telling stories. He especially loved sharing one particular story about his little pet skunk. After graduating from high school in Norwood, he immediately joined the U.S. Army. After a couple years of service overseas, he returned to Grand Junction and attended Mesa State College.
A few years later, Lloyd married his sweetheart, Linda (Gore), on May 27, 1961. Once again, Lloyd was deployed to a U.S. Army base for a few months, and then shortly after returning home, he and Linda welcomed a baby girl (Engia).
After a brief time living in Arizona and New Mexico, Lloyd and Linda moved to Moab, Utah where he worked for a short time in the auto-body shop with his brother, Paul. Soon thereafter, the couple welcomed a baby girl (Gerri). Eventually, the little family moved to Spanish Valley and began a lifestyle of hard work on the farm along with their daily jobs.
Lloyd began working with the Utah Department of Transportation, and he diligently worked his way up to earn respect as the maintenance shed foreman. Lloyd enjoyed his 30 year career working with heavy machinery.
After several years had passed, Lloyd and Linda got to experience the joys of parenthood again when they welcomed a baby boy (Cody) soon followed by another baby girl (Tiffany). Lloyd loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Later in life, Lloyd made a choice to serve the Lord, which brought a special peace to him as he aged. The joy he shared was evident to those surrounding him.
Lloyd is survived by his wife: Linda (Gore) McKinney, his children: Gerri Neumeier, Cody McKinney, and Tiffany (Drake) Shelbourn. He is survived by his grandchildren: Mark Neumeier, Lee (Michelle) Sawley, Kaci McKinney, Jason McKinney, Kirrian McKinney, Leo Shelbourn, and Miles Shelbourn. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Hayden, Eden, Lenore, Caleb and Lucille Sawley, one sibling: Paul McKinney, and numerous other family members and friends.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents: Irwin and Lila (Jacobs) McKinney, his daughter: Engia Rogers, granddaughter: Zoe McKinney, and siblings: Ivan McKinney and Norma (Jack) Schalk among other family members and friends. Lloyd will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction, Colorado on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 am. There will be light refreshments following the service for those who would like to stay and visit.
