Leora was born on December 26, 1933, in Ft. Collins, Colorado, to Irvin A. and Gertrude E. (Bartlett) Blake. She spent her childhood in LaPorte, Colorado and Ft. Collins, where she attended LaPorte High School and Colorado State University. Leora married Alvin Schieldt, who preceded her in death. She later married Harold Klaus in Nov 1986 in Buena Park, CA where they resided until his passing in April 2000. She moved to Palm Desert, CA and later married William McBride where they resided until moving to Montrose in Nov 2012 to be closer to Leora’s family. Bill preceded her in death in August 2019. While living in CA, during the summer months, she would return to Fort Collins so they could spend time with family and reconnect with friends.
Leora was a homemaker taking great care with wonderful meals and special gatherings. Later she worked as an administrative assistant for Colorado State University Bookstore. She attended church at Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, CA where she and Hal were active, especially enjoying Bible study, friendships and time spent with an RV group. She was a musician, teaching lessons, and enjoying many types of music and instruments. Her grandchildren remember well her organ that she would encourage them to play. She supported her children, and later her grandchildren, with their many activities with school, sports and music, and in her free time loved traveling to see friends and family. She loved to dance, a funny story or prank, swimming, and going to the beach. She loved her family deeply and will very much be missed.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Dawn) Schieldt of Montrose, and Marvin (Alison) Schieldt of Absarokee, Montana; 10 beloved grandchildren Kara (Zac) Brashears, Valentine, NE, Gwen (Ryan) Stokey Sedlacek, Bennington, NE, Nick (Emily) Stokey, Omaha, NE, Pam (Cory) Hitchcock, Grand Junction, David Schieldt, Montrose, Hannah (Kurtis) McCall of Olathe, Tim (Jordan) Schieldt, Montrose, Haley Schieldt, Montrose, Cameron Schieldt, Helena, MT, and Murry Schieldt, Austin, TX, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Stokey Hopping, her sister, Urith Hereim and great grandson, Henry Walter Sedlacek.
Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins. A gathering to remember and celebrate Leora’s life will be held June 23, 2024 @ 12:00 p.m. at 2902 Rigden Parkway in Fort Collins.
