Shirley Ann Bishop-Cooper-Scruggs, 90, former Registered Nurse, lived in Zellwood, FL, and passed May 1, 2024, survived by her brother George Bishop, Pinellas Park, FL. Shirley was dedicated to her profession, took excellent care of her patients and parents, loyal to the doctors and staff she worked with as a surgical scrub nurse in hospitals and in private practice. Shirley retired from her nursing career, she operated a business selling PVC furniture and later selling a wide variety of candies and nuts, which all of the snow-birds in Florida truly loved!
Shirley was a native of Auburn, Indiana, born October 15, 1933. Her parents, Ralph and Florence Bishop, relocated to Clermont, Florida, Bishop’s Point. Shirley attended Nursing School in Jacksonville, FL, where she met Robert Cooper, who was in the U.S. Navy. They soon became wed. They resided in Orlando, FL, and two girls were born, Robin Cooper-Holley-McCarthy and Dawn Cooper-Pierce. Shirley’s grandsons are Neil Holley and Joey Pierce. While Robin and Dawn were in elementary school, the family moved to Bishop’s Point in Clermont, FL. Later in life Shirley lived in Eustis and Orlando, settling then in Zellwood the last 30 years of her life.
Throughout Shirley’s life, she enjoyed painting, owned a kiln and created ceramics, crafts, jigsaw puzzles, playing pool, bowling with a score above 240, listening to jazz and dancing the Jitterbug, reading, fishing, gardening, going to the zoo and botanical gardens, discovering new things about this world we live in and sharing those things with others to enjoy.
Shirley is buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Orlando, Florida. The family has honored Shirley’s wishes, requesting no public service. The family gathered at the burial site for a Celebration of Life on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024.
