Gladstone Barclay was born on November 21, 1943, to the late Rupert Nathaniel Ferdinand and Ismay Evadnie Barclay Ferdinand in Georgetown Guyana. Known affectionately as Lennox, he was the ninth child of eleven born out of this union. As a child, Lennox attended Freeburg Anglican School. His childhood in Guyana instilled a lifelong passion for his hometown, and he loved to reminisce about it with close friends and family.
In 1967 Lennox migrated from Guyana to Brooklyn, New York to seek employment. After some time, he was employed by the NY utility company Con Edison, as a Customer Service Representative. He retired from the company after 33 years.
Lennox and Celeste first met in 1988 at a birthday party of a mutual friend. In 2001 they met again and instantly bonded over their mutual appreciation for enjoying life and new experiences. They were married on October 4, 2003. Lennox and Celeste recently celebrated 20 years as husband and wife. They renewed their wedding vows in the Bahamas with a beautiful beach ceremony attended by close family and friends. Facebook famous “Mista” and Celeste shared their many cruises, parties, COPMEA events, and bingo games at various casinos with many on Facebook who eagerly awaited their next adventures.
Lennox slipped away peacefully on April 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by siblings: Claude (Rosa), Compton, Stephen (Noreda), and Stephanie.
Lennox leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Celeste, four sisters: Enid, Pearlie (known as Shirley), Monica, & Ingrid, two brothers: Adolph (Anita), & Milroy (Paulene), three daughters: Claire, Jasmine (Eric), & Jessica, one son: Curtis, one stepdaughter Terica (Timothy), two stepsons: Tremain & Malcolm, eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, two very special childhood friends: Compton Toussaint & Andrew Chan (known as Boogie), along with a host of nieces, nephews, gym buddies and friends.
