She was born Lola Anne Mundinger in Salem, Oregon. Her parents, Ersel and Neva Mundinger, quickly coined the nickname “LoAnne” to distinguish her from her maternal aunt Lola. Her mother was an elementary school teacher and her father was a career police officer who rose to the rank of Captain. LoAnne graduated Willamette University in Salem in 1958 with a degree in English and followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a middle school teacher.
Soon after graduation, LoAnne relocated to Orange County for a teaching position in the Garden Grove public school system. She met Bill at a local YWCA dance in Santa Ana, and as they say, the rest is history! They were married July 1st, 1960. Two sons came along in the next few years, Lowell in September 1961 and Loren in January 1964. LoAnne left teaching to raise their children. The family was active in church and school events in Fullerton and Buena Park and were active campers with several groups or clubs, a lifelong passion for Bill and LoAnne.
LoAnne never returned to teaching, but instead became involved in local theater administration, serving for more than 20 years as the Ticket Manager for the Fullerton Civic Light Opera Company and Box Office Manager at the La Mirada Civic Theater. She and Bill supported and attended hundreds of theater productions, the last only a few months ago.
LoAnne and Bill both retired in 1995, allowing them to spend many years traveling together in their motor home or on cruises around the world. Their travels took them to many corners of the world and across the United States. A thousand memories (and photos) chronicled their adventures.
LoAnne leaves behind a loving family, husband Bill; her son Loren and his wife, Kate and their daughters Amy and Kathryn; grandson Steven and his wife, Tanya; and grandson Matthew and his wife, Camille and their sons Jordan and Brooks. Her son Lowell passed in 2012.
All who knew her will remember a gracious and giving lady, quick to smile, with a loving and caring spirit. Her many friends from multiple travel groups, the theater community, and her sisters from her 60+ years in the Philanthropic and Educational Organization (PEO) will miss her greatly.
The family will hold a private viewing and interment with a Celebration of Life event to follow in early summer. Details will be available at a later date.
