Judy was born on March 20, 1955 to military parents Curtis J. Vaughn and Betty (Holcomb) Vaughn in Pisa, Italy. Her family later moved near Millport, Alabama, where she started school in 3rd grade and attended with her sister Sheilah and her two brothers Brad and Joe. She and her best friend, Brenda Sansing, graduated from High School in 1973. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, where she met her forever love Gary Harrington and they married in 1975. They brought three beautiful children into the world, one passing away soon after birth. They moved their family to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1990, raised their children there and continued to enjoy entertaining their grandchildren there through present day. Judy passed away from pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed in 2020, battling it with enormous strength and grace, and truly treasuring the next 3.5 years with her family and friends.
Judy loved dearly and felt very blessed by her children, grandchildren, sons-in-law and their families who became her own, as well as her loving extended family in the Vaughn and Harrington clans. She loved family time and being a grandma so much: playing on the playground and in the backyard and taking family trips to the mountains, beaches, and to Germany. She enjoyed walking in nature and visiting neighbors (many of whom she called Angels). She loved the beautiful colors and artwork frequently brought to her by daughters and grandkids and loved the delicious food they frequently brought or made. Peggy, her 2nd Mom, cooked her favorite Southern food; she loved hearing her talk of yesterday and long ago. Her brother Brad was her favorite historian, and their sister Sheilah was their strength and backbone, delighting them with family stories and smiles all around. She enjoyed the companionship of those she worked with in the Air Force, at Wesley Medical Center Hematology in Wichita, Kansas, and at Memorial Hospital Central/ UCH Respiratory Department in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Judy liked shopping and especially finding treasures at Goodwill.
Judy is survived by her husband of 48 years Gary Harrington of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law Jessica and Brad Krough and their children Everly and Jensen, of Westminster, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Tim Hardy and their children Aurelia and Eleanor of Lakewood, Colorado; step-mother Peggy Vaughn of Columbus, Mississippi; sister Sheilah Vaughn of Memphis, Tennessee and her daughters Kimberly Jones and Andrea Twilla and family; brother and sister-in-law Brad and Gill Vaughn and their children Nikki, Samantha, and Jackie and families; step-sisters Peggy Jean Young and Suzette Durdahl and families; nephew Matthew Vaughn and family; and many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law and their families.
