LaVaughn was born to Susie and Walter Williams on November 20, 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas. She and her two older sisters, Dorothy and Lucille, spent their time fishing, playing baseball at Tillery Park, swimming at the Forest Park pool, and waiting for the ice truck in the heat of summer.
After graduating from R.L. Paschal High School, she married the love of her life, George Crowder, in Galveston, Texas. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love. Together they raised two remarkable daughters, Linda Crowder Franks Sunday and Debbie Crowder Ponder. She was active in all of her daughters' activities, and she supported George in his many businesses.
La Vaughn always had her bags packed ready to travel! She enjoyed traveling with George, her sisters, daughters, grandchildren, family, and friends. Some of her memorable trips include, Egypt, Jerusalem, London, Paris, Mexico, Alaska, and cruising.
LaVaughn was known for her infectious laugh, quick wit, and kind heart. She was the heart and soul of our family, and will be dearly missed. She would want us all to share a laugh and raise a glass in celebration of her journey home.
La Vaughn is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Linda. LaVaughn's memory is honored by her loving daughter Debbie and husband, Randy Ponder; grandchildren Lisa Franks Lambert, David Franks, Brian Ponder, Lara Ponder Bradshaw and her husband, Greg; plus several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who she loved deeply.
LaVaughn's Recipe for Happiness (this was found in her recipe book): Take 2 heaping cups of patience, 1 heart full of love, 2 handfuls of generosity, dash of laughter, 1 head full of understanding, sprinkle generously with kindness, add plenty of faith and mix well, spread over a period of a lifetime and serve to everybody you meet.
