Alfred Albert Wick

Alfred A. Wick, M.D., 94, passed away May 3, 2024, at Towne House Retirement Community. He was born March 6, 1930, in Fort Wayne, IN, the son of Clifford and Clara Wick (Grawert). He graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in 1948 where he participated in basketball, track, as well as a member of the first CLHS football team. He received a basketball scholarship to attend Tulane University, where he received his Bachelors in 1952.
On June 21, 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Schoenherr. In August of that year, they moved to New Orleans where he attended Tulane Medical School and Carol began her teaching career. Al graduated with his M.D. with honors in 1956. He went to the University of Michigan Hospital for his internship and residency in Ophthalmology and obtained his Master Degree in 1961. He returned to Fort Wayne to establish a private practice, Northeast Ophthalmology and retired in 1996.
Al was a Captain in Army Reserves for 5 years from 1960-1965 and was on active duty from 1961-1962 at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, TX.
In his later years, Al was honored as a distinguished Alumni Award from CLHS and was inducted into the Charter Member Class of CLHS athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
During their retirement Al and Carol enjoyed winters in Florida, playing golf and socializing with friends and family. Their summers were spent at their lake cottage.
Al was a board member of CEF, Lutheran Life Villages, Indiana Ophthalmological Society and multiple other organizations.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carol M. Wick of Fort Wayne, IN; children, Karen (Scott) Halm of Broadview Heights, OH; John A. (Melissa) Wick of Fort Wayne, IN; Kristin (Dr. Albert) Morrison of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Brandon (Brandt) Halm, Erik (Tracy) Halm, Austin (Lindsey) Halm, Emily Wick, Laura (Parker) Wick-Camp, Anna (Joel) Firebaugh, Andrew (fiancé Hannah Lamberg) Wick, Tommy (Amanda) Morrison, David (Chelesy) Morrison, Peter (Audrey) Morrison, Caroline Morrison, Rebekah Morrison and great grandchildren, Aaron and Pierce Halm; Lucas, Leah and Lennon Halm; Sophia and Harlow Halm; Adeline and Blair Morrison; James and Prescott Morrison and Navy Firebaugh
He was preceded in death by a son Bruce Wick, brother, Richard Wick and a sister, Carolyn Young.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am. Monday, May 13, 2024, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church 3425 Crescent Ave. Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 4-7 pm. Sunday May 12, 2024, at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Burial in Concordia Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Concordia Educational Foundation or Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
