Ida Lebron, aged 91, of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 20, 1932, in The Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of Manuel Rodriguez and Alice Gonzales.
Ida was a woman of formidable spirit and vitality, known for her bold personality and fearless approach to life, yet also had a warmth and joy that she brought to every occasion – truly a beloved figure in her circle.
As an avid people watcher and lover of the outdoors, Ida always took the opportunity to enjoy her surroundings and the people in it - frequenting parks, enjoying her back patio or a simple park bench to eat her lunch to watch the crowds as they pass - never afraid to approach a stranger to hear their story or to find a new adventure.
Ida's love for New York City remained strong throughout her life, often reminiscing about its vibrant streets and culture. She frequented Broadway plays, Museums and Art Galleries, but her real passion and love was the Botanical Gardens in The Bronx.
A proud veteran, she served with distinction as an Airman 1st Class in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, a testament to her strength and dedication to her country.
Following her military service, Ida channeled her passion for advocacy and leadership into a successful career in politics. She graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Political Science and went on to serve as the Special Assistant to the New York Attorney General and Secretary to the Bronx Borough President. Her contributions to public service left an indelible mark on her community.
In 1952 Ida found the love of her life, Louis Lebron Sr. They had a wonderful life living in The Bronx, raising children, camping in NJ, traveling around the world, and enjoying the night life of NYC until Lou’s death in 1999.
In 2003 Ida finally settled down, moved “to the country” and started a new life in Venice, Florida where she grew her circle of friends enjoying the new scenery of a much calmer environment. Never really settling down, Ida found new ways to create experiences and memories - always seeking new adventures with a smile and camera in hand.
Ida is survived by her son, Andre Lebron, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two half-sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepson Louie and her beloved husband, Lou Sr., with whom she shared 47 years of marriage.
Ida's legacy is one of courage, service, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life for Ida will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 1935 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, Florida 34293.
