In loving memory of Susan M. Burke, known affectionately as "Mama Burke," who gracefully departed from this earthly realm on April 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever bloom in the hearts of those who knew her.
Susan was a beloved wife to the late Charles E. Burke, a devoted mother to Joshua and Daniel Burke, and a cherished grandmother to Juliana, Joelle, Sofia, Daniel Jr., and Elijah Burke. She was also a dear cousin to Denise G. Mellinger and her husband Scott. Susan was also a devoted pet parent to her faithful dog, Katie, who brought her immense joy and companionship. They shared a special bond, and Katie was a constant source of comfort and love.
Susan was a proud alumna of Salisbury University, where she honed her intellect and her passion for learning. And she beamed with pride knowing that both of her sons followed in her footsteps, serving their country with honor in the military.
Susan's life was a tapestry woven with threads of compassion, nurturance, and generosity. Her hands, like magic wands, nurtured not only her vibrant garden but also the souls of those around her. Her passion for gardening was evident in the lush oasis she cultivated, where fairies and gnomes found a magical home. But beyond the beauty of her garden, Susan's heart blossomed with a deep commitment to her community. As a dedicated member of the WIC program in Baltimore County, she touched countless lives with her unwavering compassion and advocacy for maternal and child health.
Yet, perhaps Susan's greatest gift was her boundless capacity to love and nurture those around her. Her home was a sanctuary, always open to her sons' friends and family, earning her the title of "neighborhood mom." She welcomed all with open arms, offering not just shelter but warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Her kitchen was a place of gathering and nourishment, where she shared her love for cooking and indulged in the simple pleasures of life, especially her beloved crabs.
In addition to her green thumb and nurturing spirit, Susan was a beacon of joy and positivity in her community. Her zest for life and appreciation for the little things made her a joy to be around, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, Maryland 21075 (Exit 6 South off Route 100) on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be held at Meadowridge Memorial Park on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 1:00 PM.
Though Susan may have left this earthly garden, her spirit will forever bloom in the hearts of those who were touched by her love, kindness, and unwavering compassion.
