Veloria Michelle Turner, age 63, transcended this life on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The life of Veloria M. Turner is reflected in her favorite scripture, Psalm 121:1-8.
She was born on March 13, 1961 to the late Joseph Turner and Evangelist Georgia Harris Galloway in Shelby County, Tennessee. She completed high school at Loretto Academy and went to St. Mary’s University for college, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Later, she went on to attend the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
She was converted at Blessed Sacrament at an early age under Father Vondeharr. Veloria attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where she was a lector, a member of the Gospel Choir, and the Ladies of Praise liturgical dancers. Then she moved her membership to A Place for Life under the leadership of Bishop Rick Hawkins, and Pastor Dustin Hawkins. There she was a part of the Media ministry, and the dance ministry, she was also member of the community Choir the Ensemble of Psalms 149 and 150 under the direction of Mr. Jc Edwards and she was also a member of the Renaissance Guild. She also participated in Plays.
Veloria was blessed to have a devoted and dedicated father, Reverend Melvin Galloway, inseparable brother, Joseph Michael Turner, and loving sister-in-law, Alicia Turner. She often expressed how blessed she was to have been a cherished daughter and sister. Because of her glowing personality, she brought joy and love to many people.
Veloria was a Registered Nurse for over 38 years with extensive experience in Clinical Research. While working at the University of Texas Health Science Center, she was a Research Coordinator for multiple protocols in Diabetes and Psychiatry. Additionally, she was a Coordinator for CAMD – Center for Advanced Molecular Detection at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. At the time of her passing, she was working for HCA Healthcare as a Research coordinator for the Liver, Kidney, and Cardiovascular Departments. She received numerous certifications throughout her career for various specialties, such as Intravenous Therapy, Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA), Breast Examiner, etc. Veloria found her calling as a medical professional as she was passionate about caring for patients and advancing medical treatments.
Veloria leaves those to cherish her memory a father, Reverend Melvin Galloway; a brother, Joseph Turner; a sister-in-law, Alicia Turner; a stepbrother, Melvin Galloway Jr. (Joyce); three uncles, Eddie Harris, Alvin Harris, Limas Galloway Jr. (Cynthia); aunts, Margie Jones (Eddie), Brenda Powers, Ossa Harris, great-aunts; Jimmie Boyd and Barbara Weeks; one nephew, Carlos Alvarez (Cathy) and an abundance of cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph Turner and Evangelist Georgia Harris Galloway.
Visitation for Veloria Turner will be Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:00am with Funeral service at 11:00am at Holy Light Church of God in Christ, 5928 Trowbridge, El Paso, Texas. Graveside service will follow at 2:00pm Tuesday, May 7, at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 8700 Dyer Street, El Paso, Texas
