Trudy was born on November 5, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Greta Hess, her husband, Arthur Earl, and her 2 brothers, Anton and Richard Hess. She is survived by her son Greg (Jen), and 6 grandsons Adam (Sarah), Jeff (Bindi), Jake, Lukas Cameron, Ethan (Livvy) Cameron and Trevor, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Ben, Emma and Colby. She is also survived by her sister, Ellie Breimaier, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Trudy graduated from the Hunter High School for Girls in New York in 1954. Her working career began with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Manhattan where she stayed until her marriage to Art in 1958. Trudy met Art while he worked at a local farm and delivered milk to her family’s summer home in Highland Mills, NY. Trudy was a homemaker for several years immediately after marriage and the birth of her son, Greg. She re-entered the workforce in 1967 and held numerous positions including bank teller, inventory control associate and administrative clerk. In 1983, at the age of 47, she decided to elevate her earning potential and enrolled in John Tyler Community College to pursue an associates degree in Instrumentation Technology. After graduating in 1985, she accepted a position with the ICI Film plant in Hopewell, VA as an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician. She enjoyed a very rewarding career as one of the few female technicians in this plant. She turned in her “tool cart” in 1991 when they offered an early retirement program and she moved to Ohio to be closer to her grandkids. Her technology career continued in Ohio with Rockwell Automation in Westerville where she worked until her final retirement from full time employment in 1999.
Through the years, Trudy had many hobbies and passions. Following her Dad’s advice that “idle hands were the devils workshop”, she spent many hours sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. Her crocheted hand towels can be found in the homes of most family and friends, as well as many customers in craft shows she attended. Trudy loved to travel and felt that Art’s passion to drive made them a perfect pair. They travelled across North America in their motorhomes, from Mexico to Canada and Maine to Alaska. While Art was not interested in travelling abroad, Trudy didn’t let that stop her adventures. She travelled to Europe several times when her grandsons were studying abroad and she joined a group of friends from her Florida community in Golf Lakes on their group trip to China. At home, Trudy’s adventurous spirit took her downhill skiing in New York, Vermont and Colorado, white water rafting in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Arizona, and saw her pursue bowling, pickleball and golf at various times in her life.
Most of all, Trudy enjoyed time with her family. She treasured family vacations to Utah, Colorado, Costa Rica and Naples, Florida. She was extremely proud of the academic achievements of her grandsons and thoroughly enjoyed their extracurricular activities, which were many. As the family grew with great grandchildren, they quickly became her pride and joy.
Trudy’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4th 2024 at Schoedinger Dublin; 5980 Perimeter Drive Dublin, Ohio 43017. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00am with the service immediately following. Trudy will be laid to rest with Art in the Cemetery of the Highlands, Highland Mills NY at a later date.
