Obituary of Jean Blakley
Jean Blakley, 92, of Connersville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Reid Hospital in Richmond. Jean was born on October 27, 1931, to the late Frank and Viola Halcomb Bowles in Perry County Kentucky. She attended school in Lothair, Kentucky and later Brookville, Indiana. She moved with her family to Metamora, Indiana, where their homestead was on a farm on Duck Creek Road, in 1946. Jean married William R. Hunter of Metamora, and they later moved to the Connersville area, William died in 1966. Jean married Walter Blakley, on April 26, 1968, they were able to spend forty-four years together until his death in 2012. Jean was a self-taught organist and pianist, a talent she learned at the age of twelve. Jean was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star. She was the O.E.S. district choir leader, and became the president and organist of the O.E.S. grand choir. Jean was the organist for the Indiana O.E.S. grand choir. Jean shared her talent by playing for several churches, weddings and funerals. She was a dedicated member of Connersville Baptist Temple where she served as the organist and pianist for many years. Jean lived her life according to the scripture Proverbs 31. Her gentle nature, kind smile and infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew her, our loss is Heaven’s gain. Jean is survived by her daughter, Angela Hunter of Connersville; grandchildren: Jeremy Hunter of Northern Kentucky and Audra Hunter of Connersville; two great- grandchildren, TJ Sinclair and Ellyssa Hunter; step-son, Melvin Hunter of Nashville TN; step-daughter Wanda (Ron) Day of Germantown, TN; step-daughters-in-law Kathy Hunter of Nashville, TN and Barbara Hunter of Connersville; several step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews too numerous to list by name. Jean loved her family dearly. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Viola Bowles: her husband’s, William R. Hunter and Walter Blakley; her son: Wm. Fred Hunter; step-sons, Marvin and Keith Hunter; step daughter in law, Dianne Hunter; siblings, Fred, Arch, Earl and Ralph Bowles, Etta Parks, Alma Bailey and their spouses. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral service for Jean Blakley will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024, 1:00 pm at Connersville Baptist Temple, with Pastor Joe Ferreira officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 am until the time of the service, at the church.
