Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Rita and William J. Matre, M.D., and his siblings Lisa, Tommy, and Mary Jo. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Bella and Joe, and Nancy Matre. He is also survived by his brother William M. Matre, M.D. (Ginny); sisters Sally (Roger), Andrea (John), and Monica (Michael); as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Jeff graduated from Alter High School in 1986 and attended The Ohio State University for both his undergraduate degree and medical school program. He completed his residency at
St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.
Jeff’s career began in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Carolinas Medical Center Emergency Department. However, it was not long before he missed his Ohio family and friends—and his
adored Ohio State Buckeyes—and followed his heart back home.
Jeff was then employed by Van Wert Hospital in Toledo for several years as an Emergency Medicine physician. He greatly enjoyed his time at Van Wert, where the staff became like family and the friendships he made brought him lasting joy.
Jeff was a loving, kind, and generous person with a strong faith and a wonderful sense of humor. He cherished the company of many loyal and dedicated Sigma Chi brothers, neighbors, and childhood friends, whose continual support of Jeff and his family was an incredible comfort through the years.
