FRANCES MARGARET “PEGGY” KEANE, 93, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Born in New York City on July 7, 1930, she was raised in Morristown, NJ. She was a graduate of Morristown High School, Class of 1948. She married the love of her life in 1951 and raised 3 children in Morris Plains, NJ. After 32 years of service, she retired in 1990 as the Assistant Board Secretary of Morris School District and moved to Englewood, FL. A devout Catholic, Peggy was a long-time member of St. Virgil’s Church in Morris Plains and was active in service at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church and the Englewood Women’s organization. She spent her final years living in Columbia, MD where she enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and attending neighborhood social events.
She was predeceased by her husband John Keane and her sister Patricia McLernon and her parents James and Frances Keyes. She is survived by sister Catherine Chamberlain of Englewood, FL; brother John Keyes, Sr. of Port Orange, FL: daughter Karen Keane (Peter Benson) of Columbia, MD; son Bill Keane (Anne) of Morris Plains, NJ; Leigh Ann Dixon (Mark) of Newport, NC; grandchildren Shay Coolican, Casey Coolican, Jack Keane, Grace Keane, and Joseph Benson (Megan), as well as beloved nieces Maureen Toye and Frances O’Keefe, nephew John Keyes, Jr., and many grand-nieces and nephews.
She will be laid to rest in the Rosary Garden at St. Raphael’s Church in Englewood FL, next to John, her husband of 54 years. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
