Janice was born in New Orleans, LA, on October 7th, 1947, to Martin and Elizabeth Wegener. Janice grew up in a loving home in New Orleans, LA with two older brothers and two younger brothers: Ronald, Kenneth, (Janice), Merrill, and Stephen.
Janice fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Jerry Simpson. They were married on September 23rd, 1967. Together they had two daughters, Dustine (Dustie) and Laura. They moved to Colorado in 1976 because it was half-way between Janice’s family in New Orleans and Jerry’s family in Seattle. They spent vacations traveling to visit with each side of the family.
Janice worked hard and played hard. She put her heart into everything she did. She graduated collage as Salutatorian of her class. She was a Quality Engineer at an aerospace manufacturing company. She liked to play card games with her family and is the reigning Scrabble champion. She hiked up Pike’s Peak twice, hiked down into the Grand Canyon, and out to a remote location on the Olympic Peninsula for a camping trip, among many other destinations.
When their children were grown Janice and Jerry moved to Washington state, as both of their adult children had moved there. They were able to retire at 51 years old, bought a motorhome, and begin spending winters in Southern Louisiana, to spend time with Janice’s side of the family. They eventually moved back to Colorado Springs, CO for the last 2 decades of her life.
During their retirement, Janice and Jerry loved to travel. They went to Australia, took a cruise ship through the Panama Canal, and traveled across the United States and Canada. They enjoyed being members of a motorhome club in WA and in CO.
Janice is survived by both her daughters, 3 of her 4 brothers, 10 out of 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 nieces, and 5 nephews.
Janice was a loving daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone she met. To her, a stranger was just a friend she had not met yet.
