He was born in Bosco Louisiana on May 5, 1947 to Joseph and Annie Byrd Spruell.
Johnny was a good Christian man who worked hard to provide and care for his family. He worked for many years as a pipeline foreman before starting his career as a field supervisor for Coalinga Oil Corporation. After Coalinga closed in 1997 Johnny and his family moved away from the Colorado City area where he found a new job driving tractor trailer over the road as a team with his wife for 5 years. After driving with his wife he drove for other companies until his health forced him to retire, eventually moving back to Colorado City to be closer to the children and grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Daddy Johnny”.
Johnny was a man who loved life in general, never taking a day for granted, enjoying every moment God gave him. When in Colorado City he and his loving wife Krissy attended New Life Bible Ministry. Johnny was an outdoorsman at heart, enjoying traveling, fishing, golfing, and riding his bicycle every chance he got. His love of travel and time on the road made it so that he always had a story to tell, and the stories were usually very entertaining. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Johnny Angel is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Krissy Spruell of Colorado City, by a son Guy Compton, by daughters Shaundra Rodririguez and husband Robert, Charlotte James and husband Kenzie, and Scarlet Hawley and husband Clarence of Colorado City, a special daughter Barbara Ann Morris and husband Jason as well as by 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Jimmy Lee Spruell of Farmersville Louisiana and longtime friend Tracy Rich.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Annie Spruell and by a brother Bobby Jo Spruell.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18th at 2pm at New Life Bible Ministry with Pastor James Williams officiating.
