Betty Louise Gajewski died peacefully on April 29, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on August 29, 1929. She was a devoted wife to the late Bernard Gajewski to whom she was married for 62 wonderful years. Betty was a loving mother to Michael (Marianne) Gajewski, William (Karen) Gajewski, Laura (Jim) Skipinski, and Susan (Mark) Stepien. She was a devoted Grandmother to Peter (Sarah) Gajewski, Genevieve (Ted) McDonald, Joseph (Jackie) Skipinski, Steven (Sarah) Skipinski, Rebecca Skipinski, Krystina Stepien, Angelika (Christian) Cooper and Sylvia Stepien. She was a loving Great-Grandmother to Bennett, Finley, Luke, Claire, Alexandria, and Eli. Betty is survived by her sister Rosemary Cleveland and was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Hedwig (Szuba) Rymiszewski, and siblings Leonard Remick and Anthony and Thomas Rymiszewski.
Betty attended Our Lady Queen of Apostles Catholic Elementary School where she met Bernie in the seventh grade and their amazing love story began. She graduated from St. Ladislaus Catholic High School in Hamtramck, Michigan. Betty was a full-time employee of Liberty State Bank for eight years and later served as parish secretary at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Parish in Hamtramck. She also assisted her son Michael and daughter-in-law Marianne in their dental practice when needed. Betty was also a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Leader, and a member of the Rosary Altar Sodality. She also served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister. Betty enjoyed going dancing with Bernie, camping, reading the daily newspaper and was an avid walker. She also served as the caregiver of many family members. She was a full and active participant in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She attended their concerts, games, recitals, and tournaments.
Betty and Bernie loved to travel both domestically and internationally, even traveling to Poland to assist in the international adoption of three of their grandchildren. Betty was a devout Roman Catholic who practiced and lived her faith. She was a notable example of her faith to her family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who got to know her. She ensured that her great faith was handed on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Betty was an indistinguishable flame and a force of nature who was never deterred by life events or tragedies. She celebrated all of life’s events and milestones, even the birthdays of family pets. Her kind and loving nature has left an indelible mark on all who knew and loved her. We were all blessed to have her in our lives, and she will be greatly missed. May she rest in the eternal peace of Christ.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 2-8 PM with a rosary service at 7 PM at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, Michigan 48038. In-state will follow on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 9 AM until time of funeral mass at 9:30 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan 48313. Chapel committal service will take place at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following the funeral mass.
