Mary was born on June 1, 1934 in Oola, Ireland, to Micheal and Pauline Barragry. She was the third child of four including Patrick (Maggie), Eileen, and Michael.
When she was 16, she set sail to live in America with her aunt Nora. They had a special relationship and a tight bond. In New York, she worked in at First National Bank and it was here that she met the love of her life, Clyde LeFever. While he knew quickly that she was his one, she took a little more convincing before they were married on June 7, 1958. Together, Clyde and Mary raised three great children: Sharon Priebe; Debbie (Jim) Devin; and Clyde (Jen) LeFever. They were incredibly proud of their three grandchildren, Kayla Devin, Alese Devin and Curb LeFever. She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews when they would come for a visit.
Clyde and Mary moved the family from New York to Clearwater, Florida, in 1973. While here Mary became very active in the community. She enjoyed spending time with her neighbors and could often be seen power walking through the neighborhood in the early morning. She worked as a private nurse, taking great care of many patients over her time. She was active with the Irish American club, and was known for winning the basket of cheer at the annual holiday party. Mary was active in her church at both Light of Christ Catholic Church and St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, volunteering in different ministries, including Abraham’s Angels. Clyde and Mary both enjoyed the friendships they built with the other employees and retirees from Eastern Airlines. They participated in a bowling league and always enjoyed the get togethers.
During their 64 years of marriage, Clyde and Mary went on many great adventures together. They traveled back to Ireland many times to spend time with Mary’s family. They enjoyed going on cruises throughout the Caribbean and even one down the Mississippi River. Later, they discovered Stowe, Vermont and were able to visit several times. Whether they were traveling to new places or simply enjoying a cup of coffee together in their recliners, as long as they were together, they were happy.
Calling hours will be Friday, May 3rd at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home between 9:00 – 10:00 am. A funeral mass will follow St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Clearwater, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Humane Society of Pinellas County or the Alzheimer’s Association.
