Born in Robersonville, NC on February 24, 1930, she was the youngest daughter of the late George James and Nellie Bowers. She grew up on the family farm with her three older brothers and two sisters, who all predeceased her. It was on this farm where she developed a love of horses and other animals. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing tennis, going on trips with her family to the beach and mountains, and drawing pictures of horses and flowers.
She graduated from Robersonville High School and East Carolina University, known as East Carolina Teacher’s College at that time. She worked at the Department of Statistics in Raleigh before marrying the love of her life, Praise Connor Lee in 1952. She raised four children and helped her husband in his architectural business until his death in 1977.
Harriet is survived by her daughters, Janette Lee Bayley of Bolivia, Dianne Lee Braun (Carl) of Southport, Donna Lee Bradley (David) of Raleigh, her son, Praise Connor Lee II of Charlotte, her granddaughter, Hannah Bradley Papes (Dylan) of Raleigh, and great-granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Papes of Raleigh. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews and their extended families.
A funeral service to celebrate Harriet’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service at 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:15 pm - 1:00pm.
