Roy was born on June 6, 1928, in Calgary where he spent his entire life. A quiet and reserved man with an always ready smile; he was a devoted, caring and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, and friend.
Roy will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 75 years Marge, his three children, Linda, David, and Rod (Shireen), his devoted grandson Jeremy and many, many friends gathered over his nearly 96 years.
He was predeceased by his father Henry, mother Sarah Jane, brother Bill, sister Doris, and his son Peter John.
He walked many thousands of miles in his 32 year career as a letter carrier for Canada Post. After retiring; he became honorary "Grampa Roy" to a host of children lovingly cared for in their home.
As a self-taught woodworker he was happiest tinkering in his shop and took great pride in building things for others to enjoy. Amongst his many accomplishments he designed and built a two storey garage and studio (without formal plans), and lovingly crafted from rare Purple Heart wood, the base for our family's memorial award in honour of son Peter John.
Though modest to a fault Roy's kind and thoughtful nature were manifest and appreciated by all who knew him.
Roy’s family will host a Funeral Service at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
