Mary Stewart, age 96, a longtime resident of Brooksville, Florida passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 surrounded by her children.
She was born October 17, 1927 in Mallory, West Virginia. She married Ulvert Harrison (Harry) Stewart in 1944 and together they moved their family to Brooksville, Florida in the year 1959. Mary was an Avon Representative for 20 plus years and a member of the Presidents Gold Club. There she received many accolades and awards commemorating her successful sales abilities. She had a lot of longtime customers throughout the local business community and within Brooksville.
Mary loved gardening, farming, reading, nature, and the great outdoors. The love of her children and grandchildren could only be surpassed by her love of Jesus. A self-taught piano player with a small repertoire she was most happy when singing with her siblings and family members.
Together Mary and Harry spent many wonderful seasons at the family’s lakefront house on Lake Santeetlah, Robbinsville, North Carolina. Family, fishing and friends was all she required to live out some of her best of life dreams. In 2004 she moved to Greeneville, Tennessee where she was warmly accepted and adored within the town. She attended Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Greeneville.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Harry Stewart; parents, Tony Samuel and Minnie Hazel Langworthy; brothers, Paul, Kenneth and Norval (Bud) Langworthy; sisters, Drusetta Duncan, Marie Cook, Beatrice Martin, Gertrude Bailey (all of Brooksville), Parthena Howard (California) and Willa Rose Smith (Ohio).
She is survived by her devoted children, Sue (Wendell) Garner of Howey-in-the Hills, Florida, Debbie Stewart of Winter Park, Florida, Peggy (Robert) Frye of Nashville, Tennessee, Melinda Stewart of Greeneville, Tennessee, and son, David (Jean) Stewart of Brooksville Florida; brother, Jack Langworthy of Williston, Florida and sisters, Shirley Burnett and Yvonne Lanier of Brooksville, Florida. Mary has been blessed with ten grandchildren, Mark and Jeff Garner, Chris Rhoades and Melissa Pflug, Jennifer, Josh and Aaron Frye, Britton and Jeremy Garrett, and Hannah Royal; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00-4:00pm, Friday, May 3, 2024 at Eden Baptist Church, 22308 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, FL 34601, where Funeral Services begin at 4:00pm, with Pastor David Hope officiating. A Graveside Service will follow at Lake Lindsey Cemetery. Mary remained a member at Eden Baptist Church after moving to Tennessee.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are all of her many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Her greatest legacy she leaves was her ability to love fiercely with unconditional love for her family and love for mankind.
