Neil W. Scahill passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024, at his home in Lake Worth, Fl. He is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Scahill Nieves (spouse Robert Nieves) and Jean Scahill Byrne, nephews Timothy and Matthew & life partner of 26 years, Ginny Basile. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Philomena Scahill.
Neil was a proud resident of Brooklyn for 59 years. In 2023, Neil was able to fulfill his dream of moving to Florida and live a Floridian lifestyle. Neil was employed by NYC Department of Sanitation for 18 years until his early retirement in 2019 due to a 911 work related cancer. Many of his coworkers have spoken of his hard work & dedication.
Neil will always be remembered as a “truly kind & compassionate person” which has been conveyed to his family by many people throughout the course of his illness & subsequent passing. He had a strong Catholic faith which was evident in his being a Lector at the Church of St. Simon & Jude. Neil’s “big heart” was shown through his numerous donations to many different charities and his rescue of cats and dogs.
Neil handled his life and cancer with quick wit & determination.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Cusimano & Russo Funeral Home. Funeral mass to be celebrated on Thursday at St. Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, 185 Avenue T, Brooklyn, NY. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
