Anne Kathleen Huffman

Anne Kathleen (Stevens) Huffman was born in Washington DC to William Vernon and Anna Marie (Gallagher) Stevens in 1936. A lifelong resident of Prince George's County, she graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville in 1955. As a youngster, Anne (aka Kathy and Teenie) loved playing softball, basketball, spending time with family and friends, and going to the movies with her siblings. After graduation, she attended Strayer College and using her new skills worked at Litton Industries and Lustine Chevrolet. Kathy fell in love and married her sweetheart, Everett, in 1956 and they were married for 60 years. The two had five daughters.

After the couple moved their young family to Lanham, Kathy was a stay-at-home mom and was very involved at Lanham Elementary School. She held numerous positions, including president of the Lanham Elementary PTA. Kathy also planned and participated in many functions for the children, helped with classroom celebrations, was a substitute teacher and at one time was a member of the kitchen staff. Outside of school, Kathy was involved with the Lanham Boys and Girls Club where she coached the girls softball team several seasons.

Kathy was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful dresses for herself, her daughters, and granddaughters. She also loved to cook, bake, can vegetables each summer, and decorate cakes. Kathy is known for her homemade dinner rolls, beautiful wedding cakes, and homemade fudge given to children every Halloween. In recent years Kathy loved to watch movies, especially classic movies, and horror films. After her daughters were grown, Kathy and Everett spent many a day at their vacation home in Fenwick Island Delaware where they would visit antique stores and flea markets. Her greatest passion though, was being with her family; nothing brought her more joy than to be with her loved ones.

Preceding her in death are her husband Everett Arlon Huffman, sister Emma Louise (Stevens) Sandridge, brothers William (Bill) Stevens, William (Tom) Stevens and James (Jamie) Stevens.

Kathy is survived by her five daughters Dana Smith (Robert), Michele Hurt (John), Tina Ridgley, Lisa Huffman (Lisa Siebenmann), Mary Huffman-Thombs (Everett), five grandchildren Anna Booth, Amelia Smith (Kevin Dorsey), Emma Hexter (Christopher), Bailey Hurt, Cole Booth, a great-grandson Everett Joel Hexter, and her sweet and loving canine companion Lucy.

A memorial gathering for Anne will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, with her memorial service to follow at 12:00 Noon. The funeral home is located at 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715.

Anne will be buried at 1:00 PM, next to her husband Everett, following the services at the funeral home in Lakemont Memorial Garden, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, Maryland 21035.
