Jack was born in Grand Junction, CO on July 14, 1931. He attended school in Delta, CO where he graduated and went on to college at CU Boulder where he graduated with 2 master’s degrees.
He joined the Army in October 1954 and served in Germany. He was involved in communication and translation. After his 3 years in the army he followed his love for education and became a teacher at Jefferson High School and later at Pamona High school where he taught Russian and Biology. He was fluent in Russian, German and Spanish. He retired in August of 1986.
Jack was an accomplished musician and played with the Boulder Philharmonic for 35 years, including 22 years as principal oboe. He also played the clarinet and the English horn.
His many hobbies included hiking and biking into his 90s. He was an avid collector and enjoyed antiquing. He spent countless hours bird watching and enjoying the wildlife around Boulder.
He loved traveling and made several trips to Russia throughout his life. In his later years, having coffee with friends was a weekly occurrence that he seldom missed. Jack had many friends and will be dearly missed.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Erna S. Bartow and Mary Bartow, his sister Marilyn Bartow Boesch.
He is survived by his 3 Nieces Brenda (Dwayne) Tillman of Fruita, CO, Laurie (Jon) Jordon of Grand Junction, CO, Lisa (Jerry) McNew of Cotopaxi, CO and 8 great nieces and nephews, 13 great, great nieces and nephews and several great, great, great nieces and nephews.
Plans are for a cremation and a private family service.
