Have you ever known someone that you just thanked God every day that He allowed you to have that person in your life? Roy Edward Lee, Sr. was that person for the many lives that he touched and impacted. Roy was the ninth bundle of joy who was a blessing to his parents, Livingston Leon Lee, Sr. and Ollie Mae (Murray) Lee. Roy filled many roles in his family dynamics. He was always a loving son, a faithful husband, a loyal and very supportive brother, a fantastic uncle, great/great, great uncle, a fun-loving nephew and cousin, a dedicated father, and grandfather.
As he grew older, his interests varied, but because he was such a gifted and talented young man, he had to determine which road of success that he wanted to travel. He decided to explore the world of music simply because his oldest brother, Junior aka Cowboy, needed a lead guitarist to play in his band. He eventually became the self-taught guitarist of the Master’s of Soul. Unfortunately, his musical path was interrupted by the “Vietnam War,” and Roy answered the call of his country. He joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly and bravely served alongside his fellow brothers in arms. By God’s grace and mercy, Roy returned home from the war. Initially, Roy worked in various areas of retail before deciding to pursue an education at Texas Southern University where he received his Bachelor and Master degrees.
Roy believed in serving his country and his community. He received great joy in serving the students of Houston ISD for over 30 years at Black Middle School and Waltrip High School. He was a Christian and attended Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. Although he faced many physical trials and tribulations, he never stopped fighting and his faith never wavered. He had made his peace and just like he answered and obeyed the call of his country, he answered and obeyed the call of our Heavenly Father!
Roy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Livingston Leon Lee, Sr. and Ollie Mae Lee, his sisters, Rosie Mae Lee (Sister), Ruby Lee Hughes, Livingston Leon Lee, Jr., Robert E. Lee, Sr. (Son), Ella Mae Harris (Spookie) and other family members. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 42 years, Beth Heath Lee, his sister, Janet Lee Campbell (Charleston, Sr.), his children, Rocky (Shuntay), Walter (Devon), Centennial (Mitchell,(JJ), Earl (Peta Gay), Samantha and Rhonda, his grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Semper Fi and Amen!!!
