Thomas Wayne Mautner, age 72, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and current resident of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Thomas graduated from Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge in 1969. He attended Louisiana State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1973 and went on to earn his license as a Certified Public Accountant in 1975. Thomas wore many hats during his career as a CPA. He began his career in public accounting before opening his own accounting practice. Later, he served as a Controller and CFO for an oil field service company in Lafayette, LA – Petro-Drive Inc. – for 17 years, and eventually went on to open a home building supply company – Parish Home Center – in Zachary, Louisiana in 1996.
After selling his company in 2012, Thomas and wife Julie moved back to Lafayette to enjoy their retirement. All the while, Thomas continued to prepare taxes for friends and family. In 2020, they moved to a retirement community in North Richland Hills, TX to spend time with grandchildren there. Thomas loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved everything LSU – football, basketball, baseball, and enjoyed tailgating with friends and family. He also was a fan of the New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Pelicans, and Houston Astros. Thomas was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, playing golf and spending time at the beach. He loved cooking for family and friends – especially his famous chicken and sausage gumbo – and was often found enjoying a good cigar and glass of bourbon. Thomas thoroughly enjoyed playing pool with his friends at the retirement community in Texas. He loved country music, and his favorite song was “Love Without End, Amen” by George Strait. Thomas loved making people laugh – especially his grandchildren! He loved his grandchildren dearly and was a proud “Grandpa” and “Papa”. Those who knew him will always remember his infectious smile and laughter, as well as his great big bear hugs. Above all else, Thomas loved the Lord. He knew his God as his personal Lord and Savior and instilled that same faith in his children. He was a man of great faith and his love of the Lord carried over to the love he had for his family, and the love his family had for him.
