James Franklin Young, Sr., born on May 4, 1926 - the 8" of 10 children born to William David Young, Sr. & Mattie Lillian Landers Young, passed into Eternity on May 3, 2024, the evening before his 98™ birthday.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Dave & Lilly Young, His beloved wife of 72 yrs., Alma Louise Young, his Great Granddaughter, Avelyn Stahlman-Pickel, and his 9 siblings: Nora Pelcher, Evelyn Jamieson, Grace Hunter, Annie McDaniel Alda Stoker, David Young, Helen Young, Bob Young & George (Bodie) Young.
Jim is survived by his 4 children, Larry Deckard (Cathy), Glenda Elzey (Larry), Lana Barnes (Mike) and Jim Young Jr. (Sonja), His 9 grandchildren, Christie Conner, Elisa Griffin, Shelley Fountain, Kelly Elzey, Christopher Deckard, Katie Jerden, Joshua Young, Jacob Young, & Somer Stahlman-Pickel, 22 Great-Grandchildren & 9 Great-Great Grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous Cousins, Nieces, Nephews & Friends from the many churches he attended through the years.
Jim was a cherished husband, adored father & grandfather, devoted pastor, and revered World War Il Army veteran. With unwavering dedication, he served his country with valor and honor during The Battle of the Bulge and until the war's conclusion. He was the embodiment of courage and sacrifice. He was married to the love of his life, Alma Louise Davis Young, for 72 yrs. until Cancer took her in May of 2018. Together, they exemplified the true meaning of love, partnership, and commitment. As a father of four children, he nurtured and guided his family with boundless love & wisdom, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of each one. His numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, & great-great grandchildren were the light of his later years - bringing him immeasurable pride & joy.
As a pastor, he touched countless lives with his wisdom, compassion, & faith leaving a legacy of spiritual guidance & inspiration. Jim was loved by all who were fortunate enough to have met him, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his spirit continue to guide & inspire us all.
The visitation for James will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, (3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133). The funeral service will occur Monday, May 20, 2024 beginning at 10:00 AM. The graveside will take place beginning at 2:00 PM at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd., Memphis, TN 38125.)
