Shirley Norreen Fulfs, 87, of Arlington passed away on April 27, 2024. She was born on March 7, 1937, to Frederick and May McGrew. Raised in the Arlington area she attended Lakewood Elementary School and Arlington High School, graduating in 1954. The day after graduation she married Clarence Fulfs at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Clarence and Shirley made the Bryant community home for most of their 68 years of marriage where they raised their three children, Leroy, Susan and Dale.
Shirley was an active Bryant community member playing on the women’s softball team, helping to coach girls' softball, and being active with the Bryant Fire Department Auxiliary and the Bryant Yacht Club. Along with Clarence, family and friends she spent many years enjoying boating in the San Juan Islands and later transitioned to a motor home where they visited most of the lower 48 states while also “snowbirding” in Arizona. They were members of a local pinochle club and spent many evenings playing cards with friends. Shirley was extremely creative! She was an avid artist and was a regular at art shows and craft fairs displaying her paintings and other artistic creations. She was active in local art guilds and especially enjoyed coordinating and working at the Pickle Barn during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. She loved music, too. She was often found playing the accordion for dances at the Bryant Grange Hall, joining her mom who played the piano. She even tried her hand at Belly Dancing!
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her parents and three brothers, Donald, Art and Jerry McGrew. She leaves her three children, Leroy (Becky), Susan and Dale (Julie). She was also the proud grandmother to Nathan (Emily), Lindsay (Zach), Joshua (Bo) and Shelby (Josh) and great grandmother to Kieran, Connor, Kyla, Josie and Tori.
Shirley requested a graveside service, so the family invites friends and family to join us in a celebration of her wonderful life at the Arlington Cemetery on May 11 beginning at 1:00 p.m. As a lifelong animal lover, especially her two recent rescue dogs Rosie and Fancy, the family requests that anyone wishing to make a donation do so to the Humane Society or local animal shelter.
