Edward Warren Schasteen, age 84, of Arlington, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Born on June 25, 1939, to James Anderson and Lois Leona Good Schasteen. He grew up in Mound City, Kansas. He attended Mound City High School. He played basketball in high school and enjoyed dancing. He graduated from high school in 1957 and afterwards attended Kansas State College (Pittsburg State College) where he participated in the Army ROTC. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Arts, majoring in printing in 1961.
He met his wife, Joyce Cummins in 1958 at a local diner. They started dating that same year. They married June 3, 1961. He was drafted into the Army on June 27, 1962, and stationed in Ft. Benning, Ga. And worked as linotype operator in the printing plant. He was honorably discharged in 1964 and he and his family moved back to Kansas and started working in the printing industry. On the side, he played drums in a band called “The Overland Stage Band.” He was also a volunteer firefighter for Lynn County, Kansas.
In 1979, He moved his family to Texas and resided there until his death.
He was loving and supportive to friends and family. Any friend, rather be a personal acquaintance or friend of his children or grandchildren, was considered part of the family. He was strong and weathered change as it came along. His love of family never wavered. He was there for every birthday, wedding, and was present at the birth of all his great grandchildren. On April 30, 2024, he was called home by our Father.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Bates and husband Craig, son Kenneth Schasteen and wife Jennifer; Grandchildren: Kenneth O. Schasteen, Amber Buckley, Thomas and Hunter Bates; 7 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A visitation for Edward will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, Arlington, TX. Graveside with Army Honors: Wednesday, May 8, 2024, 11:30 AM at Dallas Ft Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX.
