WRIGLEY, Kenneth Brooke of Langley, B.C., passed away Easter Sunday morning, April 24, 2011 after emergency surgery at Langley Memorial Hospital. Born October 17, 1921 to James and Eleanor Wrigley in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, he lived a life devoted to providing for his family and caring for his wife of 59 years, Joan. He is survived by his wife Joan and his two daughters: Pat and her partner Kim and their three children, Kevin, Bryan and Barbara; and Eleanor and her partner David and their two children, Curtis and Amy. Kevin’s four children are Ken’s great-grandchildren: Larissa, Alexis, Bryce and Makayla.
Growing up in the Depression years on the Prairies meant being creative and making your own fun. Ken did this well and through the Scouting movement made many life-time friendships and a desire for service organization work. After war-time Army service, Ken moved from Saskatoon to Winnipeg, tackled university for two years, set up a printing business, continued volunteer work with Scouting and met Joan Chesney. Family life followed, along with a 20+ year career in the Reflective Products division of 3M in the provinces of Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario and lastly British Columbia. Throughout this time, he was an active member of the United Commercial Travelers (UCT); he was very proud to receive a 60-year membership plaque and visit from fellow members this past fall. He enjoyed the good work and good people of UCT.
Ken enjoyed home and family life, together he and Joan added personal touches, both in the house and the garden. He enjoyed taking his family on road trips and camping trips, especially in the large station wagons. In retirement, Joan and Ken enjoyed their travel trailer in Lynden, Washington, and being fi rst in-line at the garage sales in Lynden and Bellingham. He always enjoyed family dinners and visiting with his grandchildren. His hobbies included model railroading and, more recently, circus model building and attending shows with his circus models. Ken had a fun sense of humour, he hoped to bring smiles and friendship to all he met. He would want a thank you to go to all his caregivers at LMH, acute and convalenscent care and ask that they remember him with a smile. In lieu of fl owers, please donate to a charity of your choice. A celebration of a long and fulfillling life will be held at Harrison Pointe, 21616 - 52 Avenue, Langley, 2nd Floor, on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, from 2-4 p.m
