Marida Mara (Mina) Torrey was born on February 9, 1937, and passed away from natural causes on February 28 2024 at Morningstar of Happy Valley. She was the daughter of George Torrey and Mary O. Torrey and spent her entire life in Portland, Oregon,
Words really can’t capture the wonderful spirit that was Mina. She had a brilliant mind and a wicked sense of humor that delighted her many friends and family and carried her through the joyful and difficult times in her life. She was a voracious reader, a talented needlewoman, and most of all, an artist. In her earlier years, she competitively roller skated and judged completion at Oaks Park Roller Rink.
After graduating from Franklin High School, she entered the work force at Insurance Services of Oregon and then Transamerica. Her entire career was in the field of property and casualty insurance and she earned a CPCU degree that she was extremely proud of.
She is survived by her half-sister, Robyn Seymoure (Everett); niece, Monika Samper (Mark); nephew Scott Torrey; step nephew Randy Arvidson (Pamela); cousin, Joan Humbert, and many wonderful friends and incredible neighbors. Her brother, Michael Torrey, preceded her in death in December of 2022.
A private family internment will be held at Lincoln Memorial in August.
