There are 2 on-site chapels: One is quite large, with wooden benches, and the other is smaller with flexible seating. DeYoung Memorial Chapel also has plenty of room for gathering with friends and family. History

In 1888, James Ford (father-in-law of C.C. "Mike" DeYoung) opened what he called his "undertaking establishment" at 117 S. Center St. in Stockton. In 1905, as the business grew and the city's population began to shift, James moved the funeral home to the corner of Washington and San Joaquin streets.

A rich legacy in Stockton

Around 1912, the thriving family business was operated by the partnership of Dennis O'Keefe and Mike. However in 1916, Chester Conklin purchased O'Keefe's interest in the company and the partners changed the funeral home name to DeYoung and Conklin. See MoreSee Less

In 1926, Chester died, leaving Mike as sole proprietor. Eleven years later, the family firm's name was changed again to DeYoung Memorial Chapel, and it moved to its current location at 601 N. California St. in Stockton.

In 1990, DeYoung Memorial Chapel opened a 2nd location: DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, at 7676 Shoreline Drive in Stockton. To date, DeYoung Shoreline Chapel is still the only funeral home in North Stockton. See MoreSee Less

For more than 80 years, 4 generations of the DeYoung family (James Ford, C.C. "Mike" DeYoung, C.K. "Bud" DeYoung and Mike Heffernan) operated the DeYoung funeral homes.
