Our chapel has plenty of seating, modern décor and flat-screen TVs for playing tribute videos. We also offer a family/catering room that can be set up for catered events.

McGilley and Sheil Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to provide funeral and cremation services for veterans and military families. Our team members are well-versed in military funeral honors, and we provide pricing consideration for veterans and current public servants. Many of our own team members are military veterans, and their uniforms and memorabilia are on display in our Veteran Display Room in our funeral home facility.

History

Before McGilley and Sheil Funeral Home and Cremation Services was a funeral home, it was a family residence. In the early 1950s, Laurine and John Sheil purchased the Kansas City home from the Caldwell family and turned it into a traditional funeral home after making many updates and renovations. A chapel and family room were added to the building, which also accommodated a casket selection room as well as a preparation facility. Upon completion 5 years later, the location was opened as Sheil Colonial Funeral Home.

A family business

Until 1995, McGilley and Sheil Funeral Home and Cremation Services was a family-operated business owned by the Sheil and Carroll families. The location is still under the daily management of the Carroll family.

Our antique hearse

At some point in our history, John Sheil acquired an antique horse drawn hearse. We still have the antique hearse, and it can be used for funeral services upon request. You can also see the antique hearse in the local St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Kansas City.
