James “Jim” Vandergriff, age 79 of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord, on May 14, 2024 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was a 1963 graduate of Fulton High School, member of Grace Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Jim worked at Y-12 for 40 years as a chemical operator and supervisor. He concurrently worked at U.T. as a sports event manager for 34 years. Jim loved fishing, hunting, snow skiing, water skiing and Tennessee football and basketball. He was devoted to his faith and family. He loved spending time together with them at the lake and on vacation. After retirement, he was a dedicated volunteer of Cross Ministries spreading the gospel. Jim never met a stranger and would help anyone who needed it. Preceded in death by parents, Orie and Beatrice Vandergriff; sisters, Ruth Sawyer and Dot Evans. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rebecca “Becky” Vandergriff; children, Lisa (Brad) Crane, Bryan Conrad (Ashley) Vandergriff; grandchildren, Tyler and Nathan Crane, Kenzie and Kassie Vandergriff; sister, Delores (Wilbourne) Markham. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 at Weaver’s Chapel with service to follow at 7 pm. Rev. David Stooksbury officiating.
